Hearing Loss and Hearing Related problems among musicians

Musicians are exposed to intensive sound pressure levels from music. This ongoing occupational sound exposure may lead to hearing loss, tinnitus and hyperacusis. These conditions are common among musicians and evidence shows that hearing loss and tinnitus are associated with the accumulated sound exposure in the career lifespan of a musician. The talk will focus on exposure to sound among classical and pop/rock musicians and the related consequences for hearing loss and tinnitus and possible ways to handle this challenge.

Jesper Hvass Schmidt is Professor in Audiology since 2024 at Research Unit of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Head & Neck Surgery and Audiology at the University of Southern Denmark.
